In This Timeline / Parallel Universe, The Aliens Kicked Enoch Out Of The UFO Because He Stank Like Putrefied Mackerel Or Tuna Fish From Sainsbury's
The temporal engine of the scout-ship Vanguard-4 hummed with a low, sub-spatial vibration as it hovered over the mist-shrouded fields of medieval England, Anno Domini 998. Above them, orbiting the exosphere, the colossal mothership Aethelgard was stuck in a localized ionospheric lock, waiting for the solar winds to clear.
Down on the surface, two reconnaissance officers, Commander Xylar and Biologist Vrenn, stepped out of the cloaked vessel. They were looking for a baseline carbon-based specimen to assess the planet’s dominant lifeforms.
The first human they encountered was Enoch.
Enoch was a wandering cobbler who had not encountered soap, water, or fresh laundry since the previous winter. His diet consisted almost entirely of heavily salted, sun-dried mackerel and fermenting ditch-water. As the two extraterrestrial explorers approached in their shimmering anti-grav suits, Enoch fell to his knees, murmuring prayers to the heavens, assuming these glowing, sleek beings were the archangels of the Lord.
"Specimen secured," Vrenn radioed to the mothership, activating a local gravitational tether. "Moving him to the quantum-isolation bay for biological screening."
They levitated Enoch into the pristine, sterile interior of the Vanguard-4. The doors slid shut, sealing the pressurized, highly oxygenated cabin.
Then, the atmospheric filters began to cycle.
It hit Commander Xylar first. The alien’s highly evolved olfactory receptors, designed to process pure hydrogen-methane blends, were violently assaulted by a thick, invisible wall of pure, unadulterated stench. It was a rancid, putrid combination of ancient, rotting mackerel and sun-ripened tuna—a foul, vile odor so uniquely pungent it could only be compared to a modern-day Sainsbury’s seafood aisle left without power during a heatwave.
"By the Creators," Xylar gasped, his transparent helmet immediately fogging up from his own panicked breath. "What is that biological weapon? Vrenn, check the hull integrity! Are we leaking organic waste?"
Vrenn was already on his knees, clawing at his environmental suit. "It’s not the ship! It’s the specimen! He’s a walking petri dish of systemic decomposition!"
Enoch, blissfully unaware, smiled and raised his hands in praise. A fresh wave of ancient fish-sweat radiated from his tunic.
"He is infecting the sub-atomic air scrubbers!" Vrenn screamed, his multi-faceted eyes wide with absolute cosmic terror. "The pathogens! The sheer, unholy bacterial density! He’s a biohazard! If this gets back to the Aethelgard, it will wipe out the entire quadrant!"
"Abort the mission!" Xylar yelled, violently slamming his palm against the emergency release console. "Drop him! Drop him now!"
The gravity tether reversed. The bottom hatch snapped open, and Enoch was violently ejected, tumbling backward into a soft patch of mud. The Vanguard-4 didn't just take off; it tore through the atmosphere, leaving a sonic boom that shattered windows across three kingdoms, zooming off into deep space, never to return to Sector 4.
According to the laws of quantum mechanics, every possibility happens. In our timeline, Enoch was taken, leaving a void that shaped mysticism for centuries. But in this parallel universe, that brief, foul-smelling encounter triggered a massive quantum ripple effect.
Because the aliens fled in absolute terror, they left behind a microscopic piece of technology—a dropped sub-quantum data-pad—which Enoch found in the mud. He couldn't read it, but the ambient radiation from the device subtly altered the soil, the water, and the genetic cognitive development of the surrounding population over the next millennium.
Fast forward to the present day in this parallel reality.
Because of the ripple effect, this Earth is fundamentally shifted. Instead of the year 2026, the calendar sits comfortably in 2019, running seven years behind our timeline due to a massive, globally coordinated deceleration of industrial greed in favor of sustainable technological integration.
The political landscape is unrecognizable. Racism is virtually non-existent, as the early discovery of the alien artifact in the Middle Ages proved to humanity early on that all humans belong to the exact same terrestrial classification. Instead of fighting each other, the global population focused on unlocking the secrets of the universe.
Cities are built on clean, electromagnetic grids. People commute via Aero-Gliders, and instead of smartphones, citizens use Neurolink Bands to communicate directly through synthetic empathy waves. Society is peaceful, advanced, and profoundly clean—perhaps a subconscious, generational reaction to the cosmic truth that humanity's first representative almost choked a galactic empire to death with the smell of bad fish.
